Empowering Futures Together: SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe and the Embassy of Japan Unite for the Vamba Primary School Handover

A spirit of partnership and commitment to quality education was on full display at Vamba Primary School during the official handover ceremony of 2 newly built classroom blocks and 2 ablution facilities that have a flash system facilitated by SOS Children’s Villages in Zimbabwe and made possible through generous funding from the Embassy of Japan.

The handover event, held in Hwedza at Vamba Primary School, was presided over by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Mr. Ndudzo, who commended the collaborative efforts towards enhancing the learning environment for rural learners.

The support, provided under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, focused on improving infrastructure and learning conditions at Vamba Primary School. The project stands as a testament to what can be achieved through transparent, inclusive, and accountable development cooperation.

In his remarks, Honourable Mr. Ndudzo highlighted the significance of such partnerships in driving the government’s education agenda forward:

“Investing in our children’s education is investing in the future of this country. We commend the Embassy of Japan for this gesture, and SOS Children’s Villages for ensuring its effective implementation.”

The Ambassador of Japan to Zimbabwe, Honourable Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka and representatives from the Embassy of Japan, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, and local leadership were also in attendance, alongside members of the Vamba School community, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for the improvements to their school.

Speaking on behalf of SOS Children’s Villages in Zimbabwe, the Board Chairperson Mr Dombodzvuku emphasized the organisation’s role in ensuring that the support reached its intended beneficiaries through a process marked by integrity and community engagement.

“Our responsibility was to bridge the gap, ensuring that the Embassy’s support was translated into lasting impact for the learners at Vamba. We are proud to have upheld the highest standards of transparency throughout.”

The event included a symbolic handover ceremony, speeches, cultural performances by students, and a tour of the improved facilities. A shared lunch provided an opportunity for continued dialogue among stakeholders and the local community.

As the school community embraces this renewed learning environment, the partnership between SOS Children’s Villages Zimbabwe and the Embassy of Japan serves as a model of sustainable and people-centered development.

Together, we are building a future where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.
