On a bright day full of excitement, DHL Zimbabwe visited the SOS Children’s Villages Waterfalls location to conduct an interactive session with children under our care. The theme of the workshop centred around Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and digitalisation, with the goal of empowering the younger generation with vital knowledge in this fast-evolving digital era.
The session was an engaging experience as the DHL team unpacked various topics that are crucial in today’s tech-driven world. From the basics of how technology shapes everyday life to more advanced concepts like coding, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things (IoT), the children were captivated by the wealth of knowledge shared.
What stood out the most was the active participation of the children, who eagerly asked questions and offered answers during the lively Q&A sessions. Their curiosity and enthusiasm highlighted their eagerness to learn and embrace technology for their future.
Bright, a DHL representative, was at the forefront of the discussions and offered valuable insights to the children. He emphasized the importance of staying ahead in the world of technology, saying:
“The future belongs to those who are ready to embrace digital skills. No matter where you come from, technology gives you the power to connect with the world and create a positive impact. The earlier you start, the more opportunities you will unlock.”
Bright also shared practical advice on how the children could start developing ICT skills, encouraging them to explore areas of interest such as programming, digital design, and data management. He added,
“Always stay curious, because technology is about solving problems. And to solve problems, you need to keep learning, trying, and asking questions. That is how great innovations are born.”
The impact of the session was clear as many children expressed newfound interest in ICT, with some even asking how they could pursue careers in the field. At SOS Children’s Villages, we are committed to providing a nurturing environment that helps children realize their full potential. This collaboration with DHL Zimbabwe is an important step in equipping the children with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a digital world.
We look forward to more initiatives like this and are grateful to DHL Zimbabwe for their dedication to empowering the younger generation. With the continued support of partners like DHL, we are confident that the children at SOS Children’s Villages will not only be prepared for the future but will also be inspired to become the innovators of tomorrow.
